Exploring and Backpacking Canyonlands National Park
April 22 @ 7:30 am - April 25 @ 10:00 pmFree
Difficulty: Moderate | Client Agencies: Casey Middle School ⟫
A bit like being on another planet, the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park is full of strange wonders like the Joint Trail, a labyrinth in the rock through which one can hike. Sunsets and sunrise are amazing here.
After the first night of car camping, the group will split into two. The first group will go backpacking in the Needles for 2 nights. Over 2.5 days/2 nights, there will be about 15 miles of hiking with backpacks on. There will be many highlights on this hike, including the Joint Trail, Chesler Park, Elephant Canyon, and Big Spring Canyon. It’s a fun hike, but participants should be in good shape if they opt-in to the backpacking. The second group will be dayhiking on two different days in the Needles, with the opportunity to see Peek-a-boo Arch, Druid Arch, or Chesler Park. The dayhikers will also spend a night car camping at a secluded cave-like spot that’s probably one of the best car campsites in the USA.
All participants must be full vaccinated. Masks must be work in the car and when in public locations. Masks are optional in the backcountry.
Online participant registration coming soon! When signing up, please indicate your preferences for car camping or backpacking.
