Beginner’s Backpacking in the Snowy Range
Difficulty: Moderate | Client Agencies: All ⟫ A 3 hour drive from Boulder gets us to the Sugarloaf Trailhead in the Snowy Range of Wyoming. From there we will hike over modest pass to a high plateau dotted with lakes full of hungry fish. If fishing is not your thing, there will be plenty of time to sketch or paint or journal or just hang out with friends in a beautiful mountain setting. This is a great outing for those totally or relatively new to backpacking.
There is a required pre-trip meeting Thursday Jul 9, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Casey MS at the Gear Depot (lower level, east side off the parking garage). This is when we will fit everyone with backpacking gear and answer questions. If you do not come to this meeting, your spot will be given away.

Note: this trip is at high altitude, mostly above 10,000 feet. If you have trouble with altitude sickness, this is probably not the trip for you.
Also note: If you are over 14 you will need a Wyoming fishing license. You can buy it online here. You can reduce cost by purchasing a license for only a few of the days. The best days for fishing, in order of priority are 7/11, 7/12. If you can’t purchase online, we will stop at a fly shop on the way where a license can be purchased in person.
